Flurry,  is a variable edition of hand embroidery on a Giclée print of a beautiful, vintage found photograph. The original photo shows a snow-capped Mount Rainier in the USA, bathed in a magical gloaming light. Julie Cockburn has responded to the image using her trademark stitching, adding colourful heptagons that dance across the surface of the print, from left to right, from back to front. It is hard to distinguish the real embroidered shapes from the printed ones, but this extra dimension adds a subtle layering, pushing and pulling the viewer’s gaze in and around the mountainside. There’s a lightness of touch in the composition – the colourful polygons dance across the image suggesting light refracting snowflakes in a brief snowfall.
