Regarded as one of the world’s most celebrated and foremost social documentary photographers, Sebastião Ribeiro Salgado Júnior (b. 1944, Brazil) began photographing in the 1970s, quickly establishing a name for himself through his trademark highly politicised, often epic in scale, black and white images. He predominantly works in series documenting dramatic landscapes, marginalised people, and endangered species as a way of highlighting social injustice and environmental concerns.
This exhibition is situated in Cromwell Place, and coincides with Salgado’s major new touring exhibition, Amazônia, which opens at the Science Museum, London on 13 Oct 2021. Curated by The Photographers’ Gallery, this special presentation showcases a selection of Salgado’s most iconic and career-defining images from projects such as Genesis, Migrations, Serra Pelada, Kuwait, and Amazônia.
Salgado’s full catalogue of images is available to purchase as signed silver gelatin prints, made to order in a range of sizes at his Parisian studio, with prices starting from $9,500 + VAT.
