My aim is to communicate something of the spirit and mentality
of the English, their habits and their way of life, the ironies that exist in the way they do things, partly through tradition and partly through the nature of their environment and mentality

The Photographers’ Gallery is pleased to offer six photographs by Tony Ray-Jones (1941-1972, UK), available as limited edition pigment prints by the Martin Parr Foundation in conjunction with Anna Ray-Jones and in partnership with the National Science and Media Museum. Three of the images were originally selected by the Ray-Jones’, and three were selected by Martin Parr in 2012 after spending time with the contact sheets held at the National Science and Media Museum. The editions were released to coincide with the exhibition The English Seen at the Martin Parr Foundation (Oct-Dec 2019) and the publication of the book ‘Tony Ray-Jones’ (RRB Photobooks and Martin Parr Foundation, 2019).

All prints are accompanied by certificates of authenticity counter-signed by either Martin Parr or Anna Ray-Jones.
