Sophie Gerrard (b. 1978, Edinburgh) is a London-based photographer whose work focuses on environmental and social themes. For her work, she has traveled and worked extensively in India, South East Asia, Australia, Europe and the UK. Her photography captures individual characters and their stories, as well as exploring themes of isolation, vulnerability, dignity, light and dark, positivity and hope. In recent years, Gerrard has studied ground-breaking examples of women-led initiatives producing nature-friendly food for Scotland. The resulting series, Cultivating Equality is made in collaboration with Street Level Photoworks and The Gaia Foundation's We Feed The Uk, a national storytelling campaign that pairs award-winning photographers with the UK's most inspiring food producers. Gerrard has won a number of awards including the Magenta Foundation Flash Award in 2007. Her work is held in a number of collections including The National Galleries of Scotland and the Sir Elton John private Collection.
