Giacomo Brunelli (b. 1977, Italy) famously uses animals as inspiration for his work. His frequently un-settling depictions of familiar, often domesticated, animals question how much we truly understand the animal kingdom and its innate wildness. In 2011 Brunelli was comissioned by The Photographers' Gallery to undertake a photographic exploration of London in his typical film-noir aesthetic, that sits outside the classic tourist fare. His work has won the Sony World Photography Award and the Grand Prix Lodz, Poland. He has exhibited widely internationally and his work is part of many public collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and Portland Art Museum, USA. Brunelli works in silver gelatin and often prints his work himself.
