Ingrid Weyland (b. 1969, Argentina) is drawn to pristine landscapes seemingly untouched by human presence. She describes the places she photographs as spaces for connection, contemplation, and introspection. Her Topographies of Fragility series transforms these landscapes into sculptural objects as Weyland manually twists, folds and crumples the paper, challenging the traditional two-dimensional photographic image. The act of manipulating the print becomes a metaphor for human intervention in the natural world, while the materiality of the paper creates a connection between the material and the landscapes depicted.
Since dedicating her artistic process to photography, Weyland has received widespread global recognition. Notably, a 2025 nomination for the prestigious Prix Pictet forTopographies of Fragility. Her work has also been shortlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize, named to Photolucida’s Critical Mass Top 50, and recognized as the Americas winner of the Saatchi Art for Change Prize.
